Brew Methods

Turkish

Extra Fine

150–300

microns

1:10

ratio

3-4 min

simmer, do not boil

Powder-fine, like flour. Brewed directly in a cezve.

Grind as fine as possible — finer than espresso. The coffee should feel like powdered sugar.

Espresso

Fine

200–600

microns

1:2

ratio

0:26 min

brew time

Fine, like table salt. High pressure, short extraction.

Dial in by shot time: aim for ~25-30s. Too fast = grind finer, too slow = grind coarser.

Percolator / Moka

Fine

300–700

microns

1:11

ratio

1:30 min

brew time

Fine-medium. Stovetop pressure brewing.

Use a fine grind but slightly coarser than espresso. Remove from heat as soon as it gurgles.

AeroPress

Medium-Fine

400–900

microns

1:15

ratio

2:20 min

brew time

Versatile. Medium-fine for standard, finer for concentrate.

Medium-fine is the all-rounder. Go finer + shorter steep for a punchier, espresso-style cup.

Syphon

Medium

500–1100

microns

1:15

ratio

1:40 min

brew time

Medium grind. Full-immersion vacuum brewing.

Aim for a medium grind similar to pour over. Stir gently and consistently for even extraction.

Drip Brewer

Medium

600–1200

microns

1:17

ratio

Auto

machine controlled

Medium grind for automatic drip machines.

Medium grind keeps the bed draining evenly. If your coffee tastes weak, grind a touch finer.

Pour Over

Medium

700–1200

microns

1:16

ratio

3:40 min

brew time

Medium grind. Clean, bright, manual filter brewing.

Target a 3-4 min total brew. Draining too fast = grind finer; stalling = grind coarser.

French Press

Coarse

800–1400

microns

1:13

ratio

10:00 min

brew time

Coarse, like sea salt. Full-immersion, full-bodied.

Coarse grind keeps fines out of your cup. Break the crust at 4 min, plunge slowly at the end.

Cold Brew

Extra Coarse

1000–1600

microns

1:10

ratio

16 hours

steep cold

Extra coarse. Long cold steep for a smooth concentrate.

Use the coarsest grind. Steep 12-18 hrs in the fridge, then dilute the concentrate to taste.
